Sunrise Cottage on Lake Leland

IMG_1875 (2)

Sunrise Cottage is located adjacent to The Leland Lake House, with each home being extremely private from the other. It sits back off of the lake, with access along one side of the property. Situated at woods edge with beautiful landscape and a creek by its side….wildlife will surround you.

A Romantic Adventure –

Sunrise Cottage is the perfect honeymoon or anniversary choice.
A 750 square foot, craftsman style cottage, with beautiful woodwork, Sunrise Cottage gets its name from the Sunrise embossed in wood over the gable end. We’ve added a most comfortable queen bed, a Nordic hot tub, satellite DTV and new quality linens for a romantic and enjoyable visit.

Along with this, you will enjoy the remote and quiet setting. With an outdoor charcoal barbecue and small kitchen, it’s complete with stove/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and a microwave. During  high season, two paddleboard / kayak boards  and a canoe are also there for you to get out onto Lake Leland. There is everything you’ll need for a carefree time! Note that this cottage does have a steep driveway.

My family love our time at the Leland Lake house. Beds and linens were so comfy. Kitchen is completely stocked with any tool you need to prepare a wonderful meal. Clean and well arranged. Local sights just added to our memories. Thanks!

Loved the sunny mornings at the Sunrise Cottage!

Loved the sunny mornings at the Sunrise Cottage!

My husband and I visited the lake on a long weekend outing with friends staying in the adjacent lake house. We were thrilled when we (the most recently married couple) won the “cottage lottery” and were given the chance to stay at the Sunrise Cottage. The cottage is clean, bright, and airy, with lots of woodwork, big windows and high ceilings. It was very private and we loved the sunny kitchen. Having coffee outside the kitchen door in the sun while listening to the nearby babbling brook was a treat. The cottage is well-equipped, with a well-stocked kitchen and even a washer-dryer. We had twice-daily appointments with the hot tub, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We also brought an inflatable boat with a small motor, so spent some time puttering around the lake. We anticipated driving into Port Townsend and checking out the surrounding countryside while we were there, but we enjoyed the lake and property so much, we didn’t leave till it was time to go home. Can’t wait to visit again — we highly recommend Sunrise Cottage!

    lovely, relaxing stay

    lovely, relaxing stay

My partner and I stayed in the cabin while the rest of the family rented out the main house. It was perfect us. We had the privacy we wanted and full access our own private hot tub. The cabin was charming and the bed was very comfortable. We spent most days on the lake which was a super quick walk from the house. We swam, used the provided row boat and rented some stand up paddle boards. I also picked wild blackberries which could be found on the property. There is also amazing star gazing. The property is also very close to the Olympic Pen. music festival. It would be a great place to stay for people attending the festival. There is good hiking nearby as well.

Manager response: Thank you for your review and new insight of things to do in the area. The blackberries are a wonderful plus in August and September. Glad that you had a pleasant visit and we hope that you can visit us again soon!

  • Cute and private

After reading one of the reviews, I had to write and disagree about the amount of privacy at the cottage. I found it quite private and quiet. I felt like we were tucked back into the woods but could still walk down and enjoy the lake. We also rented their kayaks so we could get out onto the lake and that was fun. It was a fun and romantic weekend. Thanks Brad and Kay. We will be back!

      Cozy and cute.

      Cozy and cute.

We spent a whole weekend in Sunrise Cottage. House is very cozy and clean. We loved setting and wood design. I have to agree with Weekend traveler review about private”deck”. It is very small and overgrowned by bushes. Private path will bring you to the lake but that is pretty much it. You can not do anything on the deck. You can’t seat on it or sweam from it. We get very lucky that nobody rents big lake house and we used the deck to sweam, otherwise weekend would be complitely ruined. If we will be back we would rent big lake hous instead.

    Great privacy

    Great privacy

We rented this small cottage along with the larger Leland Lake House next door as a family getaway. It was perfect because my hubby and I could “getaway” to the smaller cottage for some peace and quiet at times, as needed. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, lots of birds and the hot tub was perfect. Great visit and lots of fun places to go within 1/2 hour from the cottage.

    Great Getaway!! Very pet friendly

    Great Getaway!! Very pet friendly

Nice place to escape the everyday grind, even if only staying for one night. The owner/manager was very accommodating and friendly. Our dogs loved exploring the outdoor space around the cabin. And the hot tub made for a very relaxing evening. We would stay here again.

Not quite as private as it looks…

Not quite as private as it looks…

Overall the cottage is a nice place to get away if you know what you’re getting. I believe our expectations weren’t quite in line so we were disappointed, particularly given the price. Mostly because it isn’t as secluded as the picture implies – there is actually a house directly behind and to the side of the cottage. We heard everything our neighbors said all weekend and I am sure they heard us. Their dog also came around the fence and spent most of the weekend sitting on our front porch making our dog crazy. Also, the cottage yard is a bit overgrown. The hot tub in particular was surrounded by overgrown bushes with spider webs and debris hanging over the tub and the “dock” was a 5×5 platform surrounded by more overgrown bushes down an alley-like path. It gets you on to the lake but that’s about it. Finally, no AC and no screens on the windows meant bugs or heat all weekend. In the end, it is appropriately classified as a “cute, romantic hideaway” and the owners were friendly but if you’re looking to spend more time outdoors than in I would recommend their lake house instead.

Manager response: I was a little surprised at this review, as I have been involved off and on with this home since 1997 and not had any bad reviews on it. The only thing I can say is that this was a last minute rental and I was not able to personally look it over in the few hours given before their arrival. The neighbor that is mentioned is from Seattle and only visits there a few times a year, so I suspect this also was bad timing. I have to say that I personally find it very private.

  • Fantastic romantic getaway!

My husband and I stayed in the Sunrise Cottage with our dog, Elmo, for a long weekend. It is an idyllic spot, perfect for exploring the beauty of Olympic National Park! We thoroughly enjoying hiking the many trails, before coming home to sunset by the lake. I would thoroughly recommend this home to anyone looking to explore all that Olympic National Park and the surrounding areas has to offer!

    Amazing Weekend!

    Amazing Weekend!

My partner and I recently celebrated our 10 year anniversary at the Sunrise Cottage. The property has 2 houses on it, the main house next to the lake and the cottage privately nestled into the woods behind the main house. Both houses are very private from one another and both have lake access. We had an amazing time here. There were very few people on the lake or nearby the entire time we were there. The cottage was perfect for the two of us and our dog. We fished, swam, bbq’d, relaxed in the hot tub and sat by the lake playing cards. I can’t recommend this place enough! It was clean, very cool loft layout, romantic, in a perfect setting…also the fact that we were able to bring our dog for a nominal fee was amazing. The property manager was very helpful and gave us a great list of local attractions and amenities. We are already planning a trip for later this summer with some friends!
